NanoEduca celebrates the third poster and video contest for schools

Over 20 schools participated in the latest NanoEduca video and poster contest. At the awards ceremony, set up to mimic a real-life science conference, Dr. Adriana Isabel Figueroa García talked about what motivated her to get into research.

At the ICN2 we are convinced that nanotechnology will soon be all around us. Indeed, our Severo Ochoa research programme is already leading to the development of innovative nanotechnologies in areas as diverse as health, the environment, energy and ICT. With the enthusiastic participation of students and teachers from over 20 schools, the third NanoEduca contest gathered talent and nanoscience at the University of Barcelona historical building.

The event included several inspirational talks, including the participation of Dr. Adriana Isabel Figueroa García, Postdoctoral Researcher at the ICN2 Physics and Engineering of Nanodevices Group. She talked about her motivations to foster a research career path and shared some tips and personal experiences with the students. Àlex Argemí, Head of the Marketing and Communication Department, was among the event organisers and presenters.

The NanoEduca program is promoted jointly by the University of Barcelona (UB), the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2), the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and the CESIRE the Department of Education. This initiative aims to bring nanoscience and nanotechnology closer to the classrooms. Nanoscience is not included explicitly in the curriculum of students. For this reason the Program coordinators have designed a series of nano-related experiments that teachers can use to explain content that is included in the curriculum of different subjects.
