Short Abstract: The present work aims to validate a versatile, flexible, and chemically modular strategy designed for the modular fabrication of (multi)functional coatings based on catechol compounds on both nanostructures and macrostructures.

A new catechol-based toolkit that includes (i) a catechol moiety, (ii) a polymerisation unit, (iii) and a functional moiety with a property to be conferred has been designed and polymerised with a high synthetic control and functional degree. The obtained products have been used to coat and change the wettability of surfaces
